A Reminder
My husband knows that a few minutes on my paddle board out on the water can serve not only me, but all of us quite well. So as we prepared to wrap up an evening picnic with our little ones at the lake the other day, he encouraged me to take a few minutes and get out on the water.
I paddled out onto the lake as the sun was beginning to set and the evening air was cooling and becoming more crisp. I couldn’t help but to steady my breath and allow my head to clear from the flood of thoughts that can fill a mother’s head in a day. The surrounding trees, the swish of water with each stroke forward, the growing distance between the shoreline and myself, were an invitation to stillness and perspective.
At one point I stopped paddling, turned the board to face the shoreline from the middle of the lake and rested on the still water. It was then that I could hear the internal voice of the Holy Spirit whisper: Remember. Remember what you’re building. It’s eternal. Remember. Remember what you’re building. It’s eternal.
A full life can lend itself to forgetfulness at times. The temptation to forget what we’re doing all our doing unto. But oh how important it is to seize the moments offered where we can slip away for perspective.
May we focus our attention on that which is unseen, the eternal realm that we are to build unto. (2 Corinthians 4:18)
